LIMA CITY TOUR
Almost 500 years ago, Lima was conquered by Francisco Pizarro, who transformed the town into a thriving city. Today, it is a metropolis with a population of over 8 million people. Now the capital of Peru, Lima offers many attractions, from it’s pre-Columbian art museums to its colonial houses.
Founded on January 18, 1535, Lima is a modern city with constant growth and innovation while also preserving its Historical Center. Lima has moderately warm weather, without big rains or intense cold. It’s a great place to visit at any time of the year. The average temperature in the summer months (from middle of December to the middle of March) is 25°C (77°F). If you travel to Lima during the summer, you will be able to fully enjoy the sea on La Costa Verde (Green Coast), no more than 15 minutes from the Historical Center or on the beaches located in the northern part and southern parts of the city. Every beach is accessible by the Carretera panamericana (Panamericana road), no more than 30 or 45 minutes away. In winter, the days are gray, cloudy and humid. The average temperature fluctuates between 12 and 15°C (54 and 59°F)
The International Airport Jorge Chávez, in the Constitutional Province of Callao is located just 30 minutes from the Historical Center of Lima and is the main airport for international and domestic flights. From Jorge Chávez airport, flights leave daily to major international cities and important Peruvian cities like like Cusco, Andahuaylas, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Huánuco, Iquitos, Juliaca (Puno), Port Maldonado, Pucallpa, Tacna, Tarapoto, Trujillo and Tumbes.
LIMA CITY TOUR
In the morning, we will visit the most important and attractive places of Lima. The tour includes a visit to the Historical Center of Lima, a panoramic sight of the Plaza San Martin, Plaza Mayor, Palace for the Government, Basilica Cathedral, Archepiscopal Palace, City Hall, Santo Domingo Church, where we will find the tombs of Santa Rosa and Porres's St. Martin, and balconies from Colonial Lima.
Then we will visit the Convent and Church of San Francisco that contains the biggest set of Colonial Art in America, as well as the Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity. The tour also includes a visit to the Basilica that has 21 altars, the cloisters convent and chapterhouses clementine, choir and library of the monks, as well as a local museum which exhibits 11 paintings from Rubens school, the Sacristy with linens of Surbarán and Rivera, the great court decorated with Sevillian blue rollers of the 16th century, Moorish arches and underground catacombs.
Then, we will visit the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, passing by the Huaca Pucllana, Ceremonial and Administrative Center of Lima Culture built in the 2nd century B.C. and considered by the Incas as Ñaupallaqta, "Sacred Village," San Isidro Olive grove, Miraflores Central Park and Larcomar, tourist and entertainment center, symbol of Modern Lima that has spectacular panoramic sight of the Pacific Ocean. We will have free time for lunch.
In the evening, we will have an excellent introduction to Peru’s past. We will visit Larco Herrera Museum, considered the museum with the largest variety of pre-colombinian art. This exhibition shows examples of textiles, one of which has a world record of 398 threads per linear inch; and tools used by the ancient Peruvians to work with ceramics and metal. In addition, the museum has a collection of ceramics, gold and silver semiprecious stones belonging to the different Pre-Incas and Inca cultures of Peru. We will end in your hotel in Lima.
