UCHUY QOSQO to MACHUPICCHU (3 DAYS)
This three-day trek from HUCHUY Q'OSQO (small Cusco) to MACHUPICCHU is perfect if you would like to understand the culture of the area and also take in beautiful landscapes and wildlife. On this trek, you will see impressive Andean mountains, birds, creeks, and sacred lakes. Your professional guide will also show you archaeological sites and explain their importance to the Incas. We will also pass through different communities and have the opportunity to see their customs, agriculture, clothing and language, among others. This trek ultimately leads to MACHUPICCHU, where you will have a 2-3 hour tour with your guide and also have free time to explore the city on your own before returning to Cusco.
DAY 1: We will pick you up from your hotel at 6:00am in one of our private vehicles and drive you to the archaeological center of SACSAYHUAMAN. Here, we will witness some of the finest Incan architecture, including QENQO that provides insight into the Incan religion, PUCAPUCARA military fortress and TAMBOMACHAY, known as a source of eternal youth. After visiting these sites, we will begin to walk for 15 kilometers on foot, ascending towards the summit of the mountain where we will observe the valley of Cusco. Afterwards, we will pass by the QORICOCHA and YANACOCHA lakes and stop for lunch. From there, we will descend until we reach the community of PUKAMARCA. After a short rest, we will climb to the summit of the Gulch, where we will be able to see part of the Sacred Valley. Then, we will continue our walk to León Punku, famous stone remains that contain mysterious formations in the rocks. We will continue to the Archaeological complex of HUCHUY Q'OSQO, have dinner and then we will camp at an impressive camping spot.
DAY 2: After breakfast, our professional guide will tour us around HUCHUY Q'OSQO at 11,800 feet (3,600 meters). We will have enough time to explore the entire site and after the visit, we will continue our walking tour for about two hours until we reach the highest pass of our journey at 13,800 feet (4200m). After admiring the mountains, we will descend for two hours until we reach the spot where we will have lunch. Then, we will catch the bus that will take us to MORAY archaeological center that was a center of agricultural experimentation in the Inca times. We will also go to SALINERAS, salt mines that still function today. In the afternoon, we will continue towards Ollantaytambo to catch the train to Aguas Calientes (hot waters) a place where we will spend the night in a hostel.
DAY 3: We will wake up very early to take the first bus to the city of Machupicchu, where we will be the first visitors of the day to enjoy the magic and mystery of one of the wonders of the world in the calm and fresh morning. The tour with one of our professional guides will take around 2-3 hours. After, you will have free time to explore the entire city, including Waynapicchu mountain, where you will see a spectacular view of MACHUPICCHU.
