MANDORPAMPA 2 DAYS

Mandorpampa is the perfect alternative to get to know the history behind the discovery of the Machu Picchu citadel by the explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. With its 4 km of length, Mandorpampa is considered the last place where Hiram Bingham arrived before its discovery of Machu Picchu. Also, due to the great variety of Flora and Fauna, this area is known as “Machu Picchu’s Secret Garden”.

This is a short trek and has a low level of difficulty. It is recommended to our passengers with great curiosity about the places and stories surrounding one of the most important discovery of the modern world. Those passengers who do not have much trekking experience might benefit from this trek as well. For our passengers who don’t have much time to travel while visiting Peru and those families who have children between 9-14 years old, this is the perfect choice.

CERTIFICATION ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004

It is important for Wayki Trek to provide excellent service to our passengers, to fulfill your expectations, and to participate in the conservation of our environment.  It is because of these three reasons and to guarantee the continuous application of this philosophy that we have obtained two of the most important certifications in our field: ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.  With them, we guarantee the service that our passengers expect from us and the conservation of the environment with each step of our processes.

WAYKI EXPERIENCE

WAYKI TREK offers to their passengers the best alternative to be able to experience the real tourism; which is through the “Wayki Experience”.  Through this program, our passengers will live one day at Wayki Community where they can participate in agricultural or livestock activities; they will also share local food and the daily lives of children who assist this community.  All of these activities will enrich your knowledge of our culture and will make your trip unforgettable!

Thanks to “Wayki Experience” and other social work done by WAYKI TREK, many rural communities have seen a contribution to their development.

SMALL GROUP

In an effort to provide a more personalized service to our passengers, we at WAYKI TREK have a policy that our groups will not exceed 8 people.  This fact alone sets us apart from other companies that operate departures with bigger groups.

SOCIAL PROJECTS

Wayki Trek believes it is a priority to help and assist in the development of local Andean communities.  That is why we are actively collaborating to eradicate problems like the loss of self-identity, lack of basic services, low education levels, little economic development, and migration to big cities due to extreme poverty.  In an effort to reverse this, Wayki Trek has implemented projects that help to minimize the impact of these problems in the communities.  The construction of a Medical Clinic and a rural Library are examples of that effort.

AVAILABILITY

Mandorpampa 2D does not have the same regulations as the Inca trail in regards to the number of people allowed and permits.  However, the entrance tickets to Huanyna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain are regulated with a maximum capacity of 400 persons per day, divided in two groups.  In order to ensure the climb to Huayna Picchu, it is recommended to book within 3 or 4 months of anticipation, especially, for the high season (from May to September).  Mandorpampa can be booked from April to November because from December to March it is closed due to the rainy season and maintenance of the area.

GROUP SIZES

At Wayki Trek we are known for having small groups in our treks.  For this reason, our shared/ group service always keeps a standard between 2-8 people per group.  This size is ideal to enjoy as much of the trek as possible, sharing experiences with the rest of the group and the Wayki Trek Team, and making this a unique experience.

In regards to our PRIVATE departures, the number of people participating will be based on our passenger’s request.

HEALTH

Medical Considerations

If you have medical restrictions for some or all the activities detailed in your booking, please contact your doctor and inquire about the risks of doing said activities.

Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and Stomach Pain

For those trekkers that come to Cusco directly from places at sea level; we recommend to arrive 2-3 days before your trek. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are: The Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and stomach pain provoked by slow digestion.

Altitude Sickness; some of the symptoms are: headache and nausea. There are some over the counter medications (pills) that help to minimize the symptoms of this problem, such as Glucosa Coramina, Aspirina, Diamox, Soroichi Pill, and Acetazolamida among others.  If the symptoms persist, the use of oxygen is the next step. Under these circumstances we have the equipment and staff ready to assist our trekkers.

Stomach Pain; It is recommended to drink between 3-4 liters of water per day.  Your body will need this to stay hydrated.  It is especially recommended to drink hot drinks like coca leaf tea.  Also recommended are, soups, vegetables, and carbohydrates (not fried or heavy).  Candy, chocolates, cookies, and fruits are also a good option.  In general, all food that is easy to digest.  Do not drink alcohol or smoke.

Try to sleep at least 8 hours and do not exercise too much.  Keep your body in good temperature wearing warm clothes to protect yourself from the cold.  During the adjustment to the altitude there is a general rule to follow: eat what is necessary and drink plenty of liquids.

Food Restrictions

It is very important that our passengers inform us before their trip, of any medical restriction, food restriction, allergies, special diets, current medication, health issues, or anything that we need to consider to make your trip enjoyable and without concerns.

WHAT TO PACK FOR THE TREK
