In WAYKI TREK we are aware of the great impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world and in our country. At the same time, we celebrate the great efforts of our Government to get ahead, despite this crisis.
Today we share the news and plans of the Peruvian Government to reactivate our economy and tourism activities in the national territory. At the beginning of May, the Government published a law for the progressive reactivation of the economic activities in order to mitigate the effects of COVID-19. In accordance with the Supreme Decree No. 080-2020-PCM, an economic reactivation plan has been launched, which establishes that companies will be able to restart their activities in four phases that will be gradually evaluated.
Each phase is planned within a monthly schedule, and in what corresponds to tourism, these are the activities contemplated in the law:
The first phase (May) considers around 27 activities related to mining, industry, construction, services, tourism and commerce. Among these activities it is included the reopening of categorized hotels and tourist transportation for essential activities and the reopening of restaurants and related facilities authorized for home delivery (with the establishment’s own logistics and security protocol and pick up locally). In both cases, both hotels and restaurants must comply with the standards established in the Sanitary Protocol towards facing COVID-19.
The second phase (June) includes the reopening of regional borders, authorizing internal transport inter-provinces by land and air (domestic flights). This phase considers that travel agencies may restart their activities virtually (on-line services), for which companies must register properly with the competent authority and ensure they have all their documentation and the necessary requirements to offer reliable and quality services to all customers.
In the third phase (July-August), it is included the reopening of national borders, authorizing international air transport (international flights to Peru and from Peru to other countries). In addition, travel agencies will already be authorized to attend the public at their offices, only with a reduced capacity, as long as they comply with the established regulations.
To make this possible and guarantee the safety of customers, a new “Regulation of Travel and Tourism Agencies” has been published in order to establish the principles on which these companies must operate. These principles range from the minimum equipment an agency must have to operate, to the documentation and permits it must have.
In the fourth phase (August-September), among other activities, it is included to strengthen tourism with the proper care in all national and international transport activities, operation of hotels, restaurants and related, tourist activities and excursions throughout the territory.
For all the above, it is clear that the reactivation of the tourism sector is in progress. At the same time that this economic reactivation plan is being carried out, the Government is investing in projects and training activities to prepare tourist companies so that they can comply with all the measures and new laws created so they can offer to travelers quality services and respecting the Sanitary Protocol to deal with COVID-19.
WAYKI TREK is joining these efforts of the Peruvian Government to reactivate the tourism industry and we are committed to complying with all the regulations and provisions necessary to ensure a reliable and safe operation for all our clients, and for this reason we trust that by the last quarter of 2020 we will be able to restart our tours and excursions in the field. We will continue reporting!
