With great joy we share the news that the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, the gateway to Peru, is undergoing a process of expansion and modernization to restart operations approximately in mid-2020.
The months in which the airport remains closed because of the state of national emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic are being used to advance the works. The modernization of the Jorge Chavez International Airport is part of the first phase of the national economic reactivation plan to face the pandemic.
The MTC (Ministry of Transport and Communications) in charge of this project approved the plan to restart activities for the expansion of the airport, which was presented by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the concessionaire that manages the airport. One of the main objectives of this expansion and modernization process is to establish measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, both at the level of personnel who work at the airport facilities and service providers, and among travelers who will use the airport when it restarts its operation.
The Jorge Chavez International Airport expansion project includes the acquisition of new neighboring land to expand the facilities and the construction of a new control tower, a second runway and a new air terminal. The new control tower, 65 meters high, will be built of reinforced concrete combined with a superior steel structure and represents an emblematic milestone for the project, since it will allow the operation of two runways, optimizing air traffic control in Peru. .
The development of this project will allow Peru to have one of the most important airports in South America. Certainly, recently the Jorge Chavez International Airport has been recognized as the best airport in South America according to the ranking of the World Airport Awards.
It should be noted that the first air terminal in Peru reached this first place in the category “The best airports in South America”, surpassing the airports of Quito, Bogotá, Guayaquil, among others. It has also ranked 44th out of the top 50 airports in the world.
LAP (Lima Airport Partners), the airport operating company, recognizes the improvements that have been made to date and all its staff are very dedicated and committed to complying with all the standards and the sanitary protocol developed to ensure the opening of the airport in the near future and the carrying out all your activities safely and reliably.
The commitment of LAP has been recognized on multiple occasions and precisely this May 2020, LAP has been recognized by the civil organization Peru 2021 with the Distinctive Socially Responsible Company (DESR). This recognition was due to its commitment to implement good practices with a view to sustainable management. It should be noted that the objective of this distinctive is to promote responsible practices in large, medium and small companies and motivate them for the sustainable development of their businesses and thus, enhance their positive impact on the Peruvian society.
As stated by the manager of LAP management systems, to date they are committed to sustainable development, through responsible good practices that aim to achieve high management standards. Today more than ever, due to the health crisis facing the country, they have been working steadily on the implementation of prevention and safety measures, with the aim of ensuring the health of all their collaborators. They have also been providing humanitarian aid to the country’s most vulnerable populations in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
WAYKI TREK congratulates LAP on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates the expansion and modernization works of the Jorge Chavez International Airport in the city of Lima, since thanks to this we will be able to receive a greater number of travelers in our country and with all the guarantee of security and necessary measures to avoid contagion by COVID-19.
