More than a trek, it’s a deep cultural immersion: camp beneath the sacred Apu Salkantay and share evenings with local families, experiencing their traditions and warmth. AVAILABILITY & HOW TO BOOK
A Flexible Experience That Requires Smart Planning
The Salkantay Trek is one of the most spectacular routes to Machu Picchu. Unlike the Inca Trail, it doesn’t require official permits for the trail itself, allowing greater freedom in scheduling and customizing your itinerary.
However, access to Machu Picchu is strictly regulated by Peru’s Ministry of Culture, and your entire experience depends on securing your entrance ticket in advance.
Each day, entry to Machu Picchu is limited to:
- 4,500 visitors in low season
- 5,600 visitors in high season
These spots are in high demand among travelers arriving by train, the Inca Trail, or alternative routes like Salkantay. Tickets sell out quickly — especially for the most complete and popular circuits, often leaving only limited-route options.
If you’d like to include add-ons such as Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, availability is even more limited and must be requested early.
We recommend booking 6 to 10 months in advance, particularly if traveling during high season, holidays, or long weekends.
With Wayki Trek, you’re in good hands from the very first step:
- We secure your official Machu Picchu entrance as soon as your booking is confirmed.
- We guide you in real time to choose the best date, circuit, and experience combination.
- We provide personalized service, premium logistics, and full support throughout.
