Moray Archaeological Site
We begin at Moray, an ancient Inca agricultural laboratory, famous for its circular terraces built into natural depressions. These terraces were used to simulate different microclimates, showcasing the Incas’ sophisticated agricultural experimentation. The view from above is striking, and your guide will explain the complexity and purpose of this incredible site.
Colonial Town of Maras
A short stop in the town of Maras, known for its carved stone colonial doorways featuring family crests. While today it’s a quiet village, Maras once played a key role during colonial times. Your guide will share its fascinating history and architecture—great for photos and a quick stop for local crafts.
Maras Salt Mines (Salineras)
The highlight of the tour. We visit the impressive Maras Salt Mines, a stunning patchwork of over 3,000 salt pools fed by a natural spring rich in minerals. This system has been worked by local families using traditional techniques since pre-Inca times. Walking among the white and ochre pools is a visually striking experience. You’ll also have the chance to buy natural, gourmet, or herb-infused salts directly from the producers.
Return to Cusco (between 2:00 – 2:30 PM)
After a morning filled with nature, culture, and history, we return to Cusco. Drop-off will be at your hotel or a central location, depending on traffic conditions.
