AVAILABILITY & HOW TO BOOK
Your Next Family Adventure Starts Today
The Inca Trail 5 Days is an unforgettable experience for adventurous families seeking to reconnect with nature, with history, and with each other. The extended and balanced itinerary allows you to explore without rushing, making it ideal for children, teens, and adults alike.
As a protected cultural and ecological route, access to the Inca Trail is limited to 500 people per day, including hikers, guides, cooks, and porters. These spots are shared among the 4-, 5-, and 6-day routes, meaning permits sell out quickly, especially in high season.
Following the updated regulations from Peru’s Ministry of Culture (May 23, 2025), two separate permits are now required:
- Permit for the Inca Trail
- Entry ticket for Machu Picchu (limited to 4,600 people per day)
To ensure a smooth and well-organized experience for your family, we highly recommend booking 6 to 10 months in advance. This gives you more control over travel dates and time to prepare together.
Why Early Booking Is Essential for Families?
- Ensure availability for all family members on key dates (school breaks, long weekends and others)
- Adjust the pace and experience to fit children’s and teens’ interests and needs
- Get access to the best campsites, organized routes, and optimal Machu Picchu time slots
- Avoid last-minute stress and enjoy a smooth, safe, and fun journey for everyone
Our team is here to support you, whether in real time or via our website. We’ll help you choose the best time to turn this walk into a lifelong story.
Live the Inca Trail as a family, surrounded by history, culture, and nature.

INCA TRAIL 5 DAYS for Explorer Families – Itinerary
An Ancestral Route to Discover the World and Your Family
Each day of this journey is thoughtfully crafted so that children and adults alike can explore, learn, and connect, with nature, culture, and, most importantly, with each other.
Day 0: Briefing and Wayki Experience (optional).
One day before the hike, your Inca Trail begins with a Preparation Session with your expert guide to answer questions and ensure logistics. This ensures your peace of mind.
Optionally, choose the “Wayki Experience”: a genuine cultural exchange with the porter community. Meet the team that will take care of you and enrich your journey from the heart of the Andes.
Day 1: Start of the Inca Trail – Salapunku to Llactapata.
The adventure begins: family footsteps on sacred paths.
At the iconic Km 82, you’ll begin your walk along the legendary Inca Trail. Accompanied by the Vilcanota River and surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, you’ll explore archaeological sites like Salapunku, Qoriwayrachina, and Llactapata.
This first hiking day is perfect for awakening the explorer spirit in both kids and adults. End with a night camping under a starlit sky, sharing stories, laughter, and the excitement of a magical beginning.
Day 2: Llactapata – Wayllabamba – Llulluchapampa.
Shared effort, multiplied joy in the mountains.
Ascend through changing landscapes and thrilling trails. Cross green valleys, suspension bridges, and into high Andean forests full of life. After a restful break in Wayllabamba, continue to Llulluchapampa, a scenic high point with incredible views.
Small challenges become big family victories. Parents and children support each other, celebrate each step, and discover that walking together strengthens the heart of the home.
Day 3: Double Challenge – Warmiwañusca & Runkurakay.
An epic day of growth, laughter, and family unity.
This is the most physically demanding day and the most rewarding. Climb to Warmiwañusca (4,215 m), the trail’s highest point, and then Runkurakay (3,800 m), surrounded by tundra, mist, and ancient ruins.
The shared effort is met with awe-inspiring views. Families learn that success isn’t about finishing first, but finishing together. Under the Andean sky, you’ll celebrate your resilience and connection, stronger than ever.
Day 4: Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna – Inti Punku.
Excitement builds: together toward the Sun Gate.
Descend through Inca-carved stone steps into a mystical cloud forest. At Wiñay Wayna, marvel at the harmony between nature and architecture.
Finally, reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where Machu Picchu reveals itself between the clouds. A shared moment of awe where looks and hugs say more than words, a spiritual reward that crowns your family’s journey.
Day 5: Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna – Inti Punku.
A day to celebrate all you’ve lived and learned together
At dawn, be among the first to enter the ancient citadel. Walk through its temples, terraces, and plazas in a guided tour that feels like time travel. Later, explore freely, take photos, reflect, and let wonder guide you. This final day isn’t just a destination, it’s the joyful celebration of a shared journey full of growth, challenge, and connection. After lunch, return to the city of Cusco with your hearts full and your bond deeper than ever.
