Lares + Inca Trail 4 Days

A Family Journey to the Heart of the Andes

An experience that transforms with every step—where families dive into the ancestral wisdom of the Andes. The Lares + 2-Day Inca Trail route invites you to explore Peru’s cultural heart through real connections with living communities, ancient ceremonies, and the shared wonder of learning across generations. Children, teens, and adults alike will discover new ways of seeing the world as they walk sacred paths and engage with living history.
A journey that inspires, educates, and deeply connects—awakening values, empathy, and awe in every family member.

AVAILABILITY & BOOKING

A family adventure begins with one step; Choosing to explore the world together.

The Lares + 2-Day Inca Trail journey unites two extraordinary worlds:

  • A cultural immersion with no access limits,
  • And an ancient trail that requires thoughtful planning in advance.

The Lares route is open, flexible, and welcoming. It invites every family member—children, teens, and adults—to connect with authentic Andean communities, learn from their traditions, and live a real experience beyond the conventional paths.

In contrast, the 2-Day Inca Trail—from km 104 to Machu Picchu—is strictly regulated by Peru’s Ministry of Culture.
This section offers only 250 permits per day, which include travelers, guides, and authorized staff.

Additionally, each family member needs two official permits:

  • An entry permit for the 2-Day Inca Trail
  • A Machu Picchu entrance ticket (limited to 4,600 daily visitors), with high global demand

Why Book in Advance?
Due to worldwide demand, permits sell out quickly—especially from May to October. We highly recommend booking at least 4 to 6 months in advance, or up to 10 months ahead during peak season.

Booking early ensures:

  • Guaranteed spots for the entire family
  • Stress-free planning and coordination
  • Special accommodations for children, elders, or specific diet.
  • Ideal dates, train times, and additional services

An Unforgettable Family Experience
At Wayki Trek, we understand that family travel is a chance to grow closer. Our team supports you every step of the way with safe logistics, guides attuned to your pace, and experiences that nurture connection.

Get ready to discover, learn, and bond—on a journey your family will never forget

Machu Picchu is waiting for you!.

Every step toward booking is one step closer to a journey filled with learning, connection, and ancestral wonder.

LARES & SHORT INKA TRAIL 4 DAYS

A family journey to learn, share, and grow together

Set off together on a unique journey through the Andes: Lares + 2-Day Inca Trail, ideal for explorer families. This 4-day adventure blends cultural immersion in highland communities, discovery of hidden archaeological treasures, and connection with nature and history. An educational, emotional, and transformational experience that brings generations closer with each step.

Day 1: Cusco – Ankasmarka – Lares Hot Springs – Wakawasi

Gateway to Andean Culture
Your family adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel and a drive into the Sacred Valley. The first stop is Ankasmarka, a remarkable Inca archaeological site where adults and kids can explore ancient stone granaries and learn about food storage during the Inca Empire.

Next, head to the Lares hot springs for a relaxing family soak. There, you’ll meet the local muleteers and their llamas, who will carry your gear. The trek to Wakawasi begins, crossing farmland and traditional villages where ancestral customs are still alive.

Upon arrival, a local family will warmly welcome you. You’ll share dinner, stories, and rest in their home for a unique cultural night.

Day 2: Wakawasi – Ipsaycocha Pass – Patakancha

Mountains that teach, people who inspire
After a traditional breakfast, begin your ascent to the Ipsaycocha Pass (4,420 m). Though the climb is demanding, it’s filled with stops to enjoy lagoons, wild alpacas, vicuñas, and majestic mountain views.

On the way, meet local weavers and join brief demonstrations of traditional textile arts. The descent ends in Patakancha, a charming village where another welcoming family awaits your arrival for a second homestay experience.

Day 3: Patakancha – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes

From ancestral legacy to sacred paths
After breakfast, say goodbye to your hosts and head by local transport to Ollantaytambo. There, you’ll board a train to Km 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail.

Begin your hike at Chachabamba, a ceremonial site nestled in lush greenery, a great intro to Inca archaeology for all ages. Hike uphill through cloud forest trails to reach Wiñay Wayna, one of the Inca Trail’s most impressive sites, where you’ll stop for a picnic lunch and exploration.

Continue toward Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where Machu Picchu will first reveal itself—a moment of awe for every family member. Descend to Aguas Calientes and enjoy a warm, well-earned dinner and rest in a cozy 3★ hotel.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

A legacy that connects generations
Early in the morning, you’ll ride the bus up to Machu Picchu for a guided family tour. Your guide will share the wonders of this ancient citadel—temples, terraces, and sacred plazas—in a way that captivates both young and old.
